Finding Gratitude and Hope in November

A Thanksgiving Reflection for Survivors

Thanksgiving is a time to pause and reflect on what we’re grateful for, and for me, as a survivor of domestic violence, this season holds a special kind of gratitude. My journey hasn’t always been easy, but today, I’m grateful for the strength, resilience, and support that helped me come through. This experience has reshaped my perspective, deepening my appreciation for every step forward and each moment of peace.

For those of us who have faced abuse, finding things to be thankful for can feel complicated. The journey toward healing is filled with highs and lows, moments of self-doubt, and times when hope feels distant. But as I reflect on my path, I realize that each day has brought me a new reason to feel grateful. Every small victory, every friend who listened, every family member who offered a shoulder to lean on—all of these moments helped me move forward. I’m thankful for the people who stood by me and the growing hope and peace that’s come with time.

Being thankful doesn’t mean forgetting what we’ve been through but recognizing the beauty of what lies ahead. Healing has allowed me to rebuild and grow, to rediscover parts of myself that I thought were lost, and to find new passions and purposes. I am grateful for the chance to heal, to continue growing more assertive, and to honor my journey.

To those currently facing or facing similar struggles, know that you’re not alone. So much light, love, and peace is waiting for us on the other side, and the strength it takes to get there is something to be proud of. Together, we can lift one another, share our stories, and create a community where all survivors feel seen and supported.

This Thanksgiving, I’m choosing gratitude for where I am and for the future. To my fellow survivors: let’s keep supporting each other, knowing that resilience and hope are always within reach.
